Former U.S. President Donald Trump has the support of 46% of registered voters, while Vice President Kamala Harris has the support of 45%, according to an NPR/PBS News/Marist College poll.
As reported by Day.Az, about 9% of respondents have not decided on their choice.
The poll found a sharp rise in the number of independent respondents who were undecided, to 21%, compared with 4% in the Trump-Biden poll conducted less than two weeks ago.
Nearly 90% of respondents agreed that Biden’s decision to drop out of the race was the right move, and 41% of respondents, including 65% of Democrats, said it improved the party’s chances of winning in November.
The NPR/PBS News/Marist College poll was conducted July 22 among 1,117 registered voters. Its margin of error was plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Late last week, US President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek re-election. He proposed to nominate Kamala Harris, currently serving as Vice President, as his presidential candidate.
