Victory Contents, the production company of the KBS 2TV drama ‘River Where the Moon Rises’ that aired in 2021, partially won a lawsuit for damages against KeyEast, the former agency of actor Jisoo (real name Kim Jisoo), who left the show due to controversy over school violence. KeyEast is considering a response.

On the 25th, Keyeast told News 1, “The verdict has not been released yet. We will decide whether or not to proceed with an appeal after reviewing the verdict.”

On this day, the 31st Civil Agreement Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-woo) ruled in favor of the plaintiff in part, stating, “KeyEast must pay Victory Contents approximately 1.42147 billion won and interest on late payment.”

In March 2021, when allegations of school violence surfaced, Jisoo issued an apology and dropped out of “River Where the Moon Rises,” in which she was confirmed to star. At the time, some filming had already taken place for “River Where the Moon Rises,” and Victory Contents recast Na In-woo and re-filmed all of Jisoo’s scenes.

Victory Contents announced that it had filed a 3 billion won damages lawsuit against KeyEast in April of that year, saying, “We had no choice but to re-shoot all of the relevant scenes as the actors were replaced, and we have suffered direct losses such as various staff costs, location and equipment usage fees, appearance fees, and art costs due to the re-shooting. In addition, we are still suffering enormous losses that may have long-term effects, such as lower viewer ratings, claims from overseas customers, decreased expected sales, and damage to the company’s image.”

At the time, KeyEast stated its position, “We will continue to actively engage in negotiations with Victory Contents in a responsible manner to reach an amicable agreement.”

Jisoo terminated her exclusive contract with Keyeast in May 2021. Then, in July of that year, she filed a complaint against the writers of related articles, claiming that false articles and rumors about her were being spread and reproduced.

Jisoo once again came forward to explain herself, saying that she had resolved the misunderstanding with the person who first brought up the school violence suspicions in October of last year, two years later. Since then, she has been active on social media and has been communicating with her fans.
