Manchester City lost (3-4) to Celtic in their first pre-season test in the United States. Still without many of the key players from the squad, who are on vacation after national team commitments, Haaland, Grealish, Phillips, Ortega, Oscar Bobb, and Rico Lewis were the most notable names in the citizens’ lineup. The action started early with Kuhn opening the scoring in the 13th minute, Bobb (33′) scored the only goal for City in the first half, leveling the match. Shortly after, Kuhn (36′) scored his second of the match and assisted Furuhashi (44′) for the third goal of the Scots. In the second half, with Ederson in goal, Man. City reduced the deficit through Perrone (46′), who was assisted by Bobb, who 11 minutes later set up Haaland for the equalizer. Just after the departures of the Norwegian forward and Grealish, Luís Palma (68′) scored the goal that gave Celtic the victory.
Despite the defeat, Pep Guardiola was pleased with what he saw from the team. “I saw many good things. We created chances, but they are very good with the speed and quality they have. We need to experience these situations in pre-season and that’s what we will do from here on,” said the manager of the English champions.
Ederson could still leave
Guardiola also discussed Ederson’s future, given the interest from Al Nassr and Al Ittihad in the Brazilian goalkeeper: “I would like him to stay, but that depends on the other clubs. I don’t know what the situation is. There have been no contacts in the past few days. It’s a matter of training, of being with us until the end of the transfer window, and then we’ll see.”
