Store, Technical staff from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) of Zapotillo canton, in coordination with the Prefecture of Loja, the Heifer Foundation and the Environmental Management Production Unit of the Municipal Government of Zapotillo, have developed an initiative to strengthen cocoa production in Zapotillo canton.
Activity that benefits eleven producers from the Chaquino neighborhood of the Bolaspamba parish, where a total of 2,600 cocoa plants were delivered to the Association “Riquezas del Bosque Seco.” The purpose is to promote economic and agricultural development, providing local farmers with the necessary resources to expand their productive activities.
Roberto Moreira, a MAG technician in Zapotillo, said that cocoa has been strategically selected for its potential to generate sustainable income and improve the quality of life of producers in the Zapotillo canton.
The joint work of the institutions highlights the joint commitment to support initiatives that strengthen the agricultural sector, motivating more farmers to get involved in the production of profitable and sustainable crops such as cocoa.
“This delivery of cocoa plants represents our ongoing commitment to rural development and food security in Zapotillo. We are dedicated to providing our farmers with the tools necessary to prosper and contribute to local economic development, with training and technical assistance in the province,” said Augusta Correa, District Director of MAG Loja.
