Md. took charge as the new Director General of Bangla Academy. Haroon-ur-Rashid Askari.
He took charge from today Wednesday after the notification of his appointment was issued last Thursday. The directors and officials of different departments of the academy welcomed him with a reception at Shaheed Munir Chowdhury meeting room of the academy today at noon.
Haroon-ur-Rasheed Askari has been appointed as Director General of Bangla Academy for the next three years from the date of joining.
He joined Islami University as a lecturer in English department in 1990. Later he served as the Vice-Chancellor of this University. He is well known as a researcher and translator. He has written a total of 8 books including 2 edited books and hundreds of articles-articles-columns. However, it is better known to the reader as an English language essay. World poet Rabindranath Tagore’s birth centenary edited a three-volume book titled “Tagore’s Writing in English”. A translation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s book ‘Amar Pita Amar Bangladesh’ ‘My Father My Bangladesh’ is a book edited by her.
It should be noted that poet Muhammad Nurul Huda served in this post of Bangla Academy before that.
