BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that BNP along with opposition parties and people of opinion are being arbitrarily arrested around the students’ movement demanding quota reform.
He said this in a statement sent to the media on Thursday (July 25).
BNP Secretary General said, BNP health affairs secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, executive committee member Tariqul Islam Tenzing and BNP vice chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu’s son Sanyat (who is not involved in politics) were arrested.
Mirza Fakhrul said, besides, I have learned that Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chairman and former member of parliament Barrister Andalib Rahman Parth was taken away from his house at 1 am yesterday by the law enforcement forces.
Condemning and protesting the continuous arrest of the leaders and activists of the opposition parties including the BNP for the past few days, the BNP Secretary General said that innocent BNP leaders and activists are being arrested by house-to-house raids to cover up state terrorism and as a ruse. Not only that, their children or members of the house are being arrested and their furniture is being vandalized along with indecent behavior.
Mirza Fakhrul also mentioned in the statement that some members of the government-law and order forces are blaming BNP and opposition party leaders and activists for falsely accusing them of playing a role in the movement.
He said, if so, why were they not arrested at the scene? That is the question of the people. This proves that neither BNP nor opposition parties are involved in this movement.
He further said that hundreds of innocent students were killed by terrorists of the government party and members of the law enforcement agencies, while the judicial inquiry committee on the instructions of the government will only investigate the killings of 6 people, which is tantamount to covering up the entire killings. The people demanded an international investigation into the whole incident. Or people feel that the government should resign immediately taking full responsibility for the failure.
