In addition to the already known dates for Patriotic Holidays on July 28 and 29, it was established a year ago that every July 23 would be recognized as a national holiday for the Day of the Peruvian Air Force.
WHY WAS JULY 23 DECLARED A HOLIDAY?
The decision was made by the Congress in June 2023 in commemoration of the sacrifice of the captain of the Peruvian Air Force, José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzales, during the conflict with Ecuador in 1941.
Through Law No. 31822, it is also established that the mortal remains of the highest hero of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) will remain at Las Palmas Air Base, where they will continue to receive the appropriate honors from the members of this military institution.
WHO BENEFITS AND WHAT BENEFITS DO THEY RECEIVE?
On Tuesday, July 23, workers must take a day off without affecting their salary. However, if they must work, as established by their schedule or the needs of the company, their employer has two options: grant a day off on another date or pay triple the salary for the holiday worked.
As explained by the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), Álvaro Gálvez, the worker will receive one payment for the holiday, a second payment for the work performed, and a third for having worked on the holiday (100% surcharge).
HOW MUCH PAY IS DUE TO THOSE WHO WORK ON A HOLIDAY?
For example, if a worker earns S/ 100 daily and works on Tuesday, July 23, without a substitute day off at another time, they will be entitled to receive, in practice, three remunerations for each day worked: S/ 100 for the holiday (which is incorporated within the weekly, biweekly, or monthly remuneration) and S/ 200 for working on a holiday (100% surcharge).
