During the ‘First Meeting on Popular and Solidarity Economy – More Talent’, held at Corferias, Bogotá, President Gustavo Petro called on Bancóldex and the Agrarian Bank to become pillars of the popular economy.
The president highlighted the importance of providing support to small business owners and landowners, emphasizing that associativity and associative credit are essential for their development. In his speech, Petro urged these financial institutions to transform and adapt to the needs of these sectors, providing access to credit and technical assistance.
Petro stated: “I request that Bancóldex and the Agrarian Bank become the banks of the popular economy,” emphasizing the capacity of these public entities to meet the demands of small business owners and farmers.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of associative credit, indicating that it can enhance growth by offering better financing conditions to small business owners and farmers, thereby increasing their investment capacity.
The president also stressed the crucial role that banks must play as allies of the popular economy, facilitating access to credit and providing favorable conditions that benefit not only small business owners and farmers, but also the overall economic development of the country.
For Petro, the popular economy is fundamental in the fight against poverty and inequality in Colombia. “It is a vital source of employment and livelihood for millions of Colombians. Supporting this sector is essential to achieve inclusive and sustainable development,” he affirmed.
During his speech, Petro insisted on the need for an inclusive and accessible approach from banks, which should go beyond credit, also offering advice and technical support so that small business owners and farmers can thrive.
