jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Civil Society Coalition for Transparency, Inclusion and Democracy (Aspiration Coalition) is pushing for the implementation of inclusive regional elections as a bridge for the fulfillment of voting rights for all groups. This includes those who are vulnerable to discrimination.
“Also ensuring the advocacy agenda so that gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates make social inclusion development an agenda,” said SETARA Institute Executive Director Halili Hasan in a virtual discussion, Friday (26/7).
The Aspiration Coalition consists of the SETARA Institute, Transparency International, the Alliance of Independent Journalists-AJI and Perludem together with the Aceh, South Sulawesi and West Java Aspiration Coalitions.
Three representatives of the Aspiration Coalition from three provinces conveyed the agenda for social inclusion development that ensures the involvement of vulnerable and discriminated groups in development, and protection of vulnerable and discriminated groups must be a shared agenda.
“Protection of disabled groups and child protection are the most advanced achievements of local governments, as indicated by regulations and programs that ensure their rights,” he said.
Advancing women’s equality and gender justice is still homework. Meanwhile, guaranteeing freedom for minority religious and belief groups is still an urgent issue to be responded to.
“The issue of inclusion of indigenous peoples and gender diversity is the one that has received the least attention,” said Halili.
He said, the Aspiration Coalition has been working for approximately 1 year with a series of capacity building activities, training, policy dialogues, increasing NGO networks in the regions, policy advocacy, and building together advocacy across minority, vulnerable and discriminated groups.
The Aspiration Coalition encourages the holding of Inclusive Regional Elections so that all groups can participate in voting.
