AGI – The New People’s Front has chosen Lucie Castets as the joint candidate for Matignon: 37 years old, an economist and a graduate of Ena, she is connected to the world of associations and is described in a joint statement as a “leader in the associative struggles for the defense and promotion of public services, actively engaged in the battle of ideas against retirement at 64 years.”
According to the Nfp, this “senior official who has worked in the repression of tax fraud and financial crime, and the associative world” will be “strong” in the “total commitment” of the parties. Unknown to the general public, Castets is currently the director of finance and procurement for the city of Paris. She is one of the prominent figures of the collective “Our Public Services” and is decidedly opposed to the policy of the outgoing government.
“She has a remarkable professional career in the service of the State and local authorities, with a strong commitment to tax justice and the fight against tax evasion,” said the co-founder of “Our Public Services” to AFP. “She is a very committed person for schools, hospitals, and social justice. She moves very quickly on topics that are sometimes very complex, she is very human, close to people,” he assured.
She herself assured that she accepted the trust of the 4 Nfp parties with “total humility but with great conviction” and presented herself as a “credible and serious” candidate. On the day that France Insoumise announced it would present a bill to repeal Macron’s pension reform (an initiative that will also be supported by Rassemblement National), Castets has already announced that she will carry the project forward once she arrives at Matignon. Her selection comes after 16 days of relentless negotiations within the left-wing parties and following the withdrawal of Huguette Bello and Laurence Tubiana.
