jpnn.com – JAKARTA – Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Republic of Indonesia Police (Polri) is time to be revised.

Professor of Law at Al-Azhar University of Indonesia (UAI) Prof. Suparji Ahmad even said that revision is a necessity and inevitability.

The reason is, the law has been in effect for 20 years, during which time there have been many new developments, dynamics and challenges.

Suparji expressed his views when he was a resource person at the discussion on the ‘Bill on Amendments to Law No. 2 of 2002 Concerning the Police’ at the Dharmawangsa Hotel, South Jakarta, Wednesday (24/7).

“Revision of the National Police Law is a necessity, an inevitability, considering that it has been more than 20 years and there have been many legal developments, Constitutional Court decisions, societal dynamics, legal challenges, developments in information and technology which then encouraged the need for changes to the National Police Law,” said Suparji.

He assessed that currently legal issues are developing rapidly. Starting from hacking, fraud, online gambling and other legal cases.

For this reason, the National Police Law must be revised to address the challenges and developments in the legal issues in question.

“It cannot be avoided, so it needs an inevitability, a Police that is able to work professionally, procedurally and has a strong legal basis. That is what I then interpret as an inevitability,” he said.

Legal expert Prof. Suparji believes that the National Police Law needs to be revised immediately, here are the reasons.
