Barack and Michelle Obama Announce Support for Kamala Harris in Presidential Race

by time news

“We couldn’t be more excited about this – or more excited to support Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States,” said former U.S. President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama in a statement announcing their support for Kamala Harris’s candidacy.

“We agree with President Biden – Kamala’s selection was one of the best decisions he ever made. She has the track record to prove it: As a prosecutor, she defended the Constitution and fought for people who deserve fair treatment. As Attorney General of California, she worked hard to ensure that everyone is treated fairly, regardless of who they are or whom they love. As a senator, she was one of the strongest voices holding the Trump administration accountable. And, as Vice President, she contributed to the leadership in expanding the Affordable Care Act, combating climate change, fighting for reproductive freedom, equality, and the rule of law,” they specifically state.

“But Kamala has more than just a track record. She has the vision, the character, and the strength that this critical moment demands. There is no doubt in our minds that Kamala Harris has exactly what it takes to win this election and deliver for the American people. At a time when the stakes have never been higher, she gives us all a reason to hope. We know that in the coming months, Kamala will continue to speak directly to the American people – Democrats, Republicans, and Independents,” they add.

So far, Obama has been one of the few top-tier Democrats who had not publicly supported Kamala Harris, while other party leaders had moved forward with public endorsements. However, U.S. reports indicated that in private conversations he had expressed his full support for Harris’s candidacy and is in regular contact with her.
