The Attorney General’s Office has ordered a preliminary investigation against several officials of the National Protection Unit (UNP) following the discovery of several leaders of the FARC dissident groups travelling in seven UNP trucks during a military checkpoint in Antioquia.
These vans belong to the Ministry of the Interior, which has raised serious concerns about the misuse of state resources.
In response to these events, the oversight body has assigned the National Directorate of Special Investigations to carry out a disciplinary inspection. The objective is to collect evidence that will help identify the public servants involved in these alleged disciplinary breaches.
After learning of the facts through various media outlets, the Attorney General’s Office stressed the importance of “identifying the alleged perpetrators of relevant conduct that could be the subject of investigation.” This process seeks to clarify who is responsible and assess the seriousness of their actions.

The order to open the investigation also includes an analysis of the manuals, protocols and resolutions that regulate the protection of people, especially in the context of the ceasefire. during negotiations between the Colombian State and the armed group Estado Mayor Central. This analysis is crucial to verify whether the established regulations were complied with.
In addition, the Attorney General’s Office will investigate the Office of the Peace Commissioner to obtain the resolutions that were granted to the members of the Central General Staff the role of negotiators or facilitators in the peace process. This line of research is essential to understand under what conditions their movement in UNP vans was permitted.
Finally, a disciplinary inspection will be carried out at the headquarters of the Military Unit in Bello, Antioquia. The objective is to determine the exact circumstances of time, manner and place in which the detention and subsequent search of the UNP vans involved in the events took place.
