Angry Even in Death: How a German Man’s Grievance Against GEZ Continues to Haunt His Family

by time news

Cologne/Borken – He was angry with GEZ even during his lifetime. Now it haunts him until his death.

Hans-Jürgen Dickhoff from Borken (NRW) died a few weeks ago at the age of 80. A short time later the family received a letter from GEZ. The fee seekers wanted to know who would pay the transmission fee for the deceased’s rented apartment in the future. The answer came from the forest cemetery: The dead man finally asks to be left alone.

“try to relax.”

The message from the deceased’s email account says:

“I’ve been lying here in the forest cemetery for a few weeks, trying to relax. I honestly thought that after my death I would finally find peace from street robbers. I can’t express to you in words how sorry I am to have spent every penny or cent of my life only to have to strangle an organization like yours! I don’t care who took over my apartment! It’s not my problem anymore! The quality of your TV services was terrible! I hope I never hear from you again.”

There has been anger against GEZ since the advent of television

BILD investigated the case – and it ended up with the deceased’s son. Markus Dickhoff (48) admits: “I wrote the email with my father in mind. Actually, he was always above it GEZ Angry. It started in 1979 when we got our first colour television.

He wrote the letter angrily (subject line: “Greetings from the grave”) because he found the GEZ letter “disrespectful”: “You just write to ‘the Hans-Jürgen Dickhoff family. We must help now so that the new tenant can also pay.’ As if you had no other concerns in a situation like this,” says the security consultant.

GEZ literally wrote: “We were informed by the residents’ registration office that Mr. Hans Jürgen Dickhoff has died. Please understand that we need to clarify who is now required to register for the above-mentioned apartment. We therefore ask for your help. Please send us the completed reply form and, if applicable, the SEPA direct debit mandate within two weeks.”

GEZ confirmed the letter. A spokesperson: “The necessary de-registration or re-registration of an apartment in the event of death can be easily done by surviving relatives using an online form.”

Senior was still angry about the TV program

Markus Dickhoff does not understand why the residents’ registration office does not reveal the name of the new tenant. He is sure that his father will be in his grave because of his writings. The former truck driver, who had cared for his seriously ill wife Renate for years, is said to have been annoyed by the television program on New Year’s Eve. Son: “He went from channel to channel and said that in the past there were big shows that were presented with passion. He has to pay a fee for all this nonsense.

His neighbour also knew about Grandpa Hans-Jürgen’s GEZ anger: “When we got cable TV here, he complained loudly about the compulsory fee.”
