The company once equipped Michael Schumacher’s Formula 1 car, but now it is in a deep crisis. The rim manufacturer BBS has filed for bankruptcy again.
The automotive supplier BBS has filed for bankruptcy again – for the fifth time in the company’s history. The Rottweil District Court said it opened insolvency proceedings on Friday. The “Schwarzwälder Bote” had previously reported that the rim manufacturer had already filed for bankruptcy in October 2023 and was taken over by new managing directors.
At the beginning of July, the media also reported that the salaries of the 240 employees had not been paid in May and June. According to a report in the “Münchner Merkur” in mid-July, managing director Ilkem Şahin vehemently contradicted this and dismissed rumors of impending insolvency.
The management has not yet commented on the insolvency filing. According to the “Schwarzwälder Bote”, the PR agency responsible for BBS was surprised by the news. No statement was made. Union secretary Prutscher was also surprised. The management’s behavior puzzles him, he told the newspaper.
Founded in 1970, BBS primarily produces aluminum rims for high-end vehicles and has already equipped Michael Schumacher’s Formula 1 car. The name stands for the surnames of the two founders and the company headquarters: Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand in Schiltach.
