According to the government decision, public and private offices will be open for 6 hours from 9 am to 3 pm for three days from Sunday. On these days, bank transaction hours will be extended as well as check clearing house will run on new schedule.
On Sunday (July 28), the Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank issued an instruction in this regard.
According to the instructions, the activities of the three platforms established in Bangladesh Bank Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), Automated Check Clearing House (Bangladesh Automated Clearing House-BACH or BATCH) and Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN) will continue according to the new schedule. Through these services, payments and automatic check settlement are made from one branch to another branch or to the customer of another bank.
High value checks (above 5 lakh rupees) and regular value checks (less than 5 lakh rupees) are settled through BACH. High value checks should be sent by 12 noon for clearing. These will be settled by 2:15 PM. And any regular value check should be sent to the clearing house by 12:30 p.m. These checks will be cleared within 2:45 PM.
RTGS customer transactions will be from 10 am to 2.45 pm. Interbank transfer from 10 am to 3 pm. Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN) services will continue as before, the directive said.
In another directive, it is said that the commercial banks of the country will conduct transactions on July 28, 29 and 30 from 10 am to 3 pm. The bank will be open till 3:30 pm. At the same time, all normal transactions will continue in the bank branches.
Bank transactions take place from 10 am to 4 pm during normal hours. And the official activities of the bank continue till 6 pm.
It is to be noted that the anti-quota student movement of the country turned into violence and the government declared a general holiday from last Sunday to Tuesday along with imposing a curfew. On Wednesday and Thursday, government and private offices were also opened to a limited extent and curfew was relaxed. Currently, the situation in the country has started to normalize. The government is further relaxing the curfew period. In this situation, the hours of public and private offices are also extended. As a result of this, along with bank transactions, the clearing house transaction time has also been extended.
