The matches of IPL 2022 season will start on March 26. The announcement was made by the BCCI after the IPL governing council meeting on Thursday. The update date has been announced at the request of broadcaster Star Sports.

Star Sports wanted to adjust the fixtures to the way the league starts on Saturday. This was approved by the IPL Governing Committee. Earlier, the league was scheduled to start on March 29. According to the updated fixture, the final will be played on May 29.

There will be 74 matches this season, including 70 league matches involving 10 teams. The IPL starts 11 days after the India-Sri Lanka Test series. Of these, 70 matches will be played in Mumbai and Pune.

Mumbai will play 55 matches and Pune 15 matches. Of these, 20 matches will be played at Wankhede and Brabourne, while 15 matches will be played at DY Patil Stadium and MCA Stadium. The final of the play-offs will be played on May 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Brijesh Patel said that spectators will be admitted for the matches. In the first weeks of the league, the decision was made to allow spectators to enter 50 per cent of the stadiums and then 75 per cent of the seats. He, however, said that the final decision would be taken as per the directions of the respective state governments.

IPL 2022 | Mumbai Indians should not be allowed to play in Wankhede; Other teams in opposition

The IPL returns to India shortly after the BCCI decided to hold the 15th edition of the IPL (IPL 2022) in Maharashtra only in the wake of the Kovid expansion. The return of the IPL to India is gaining attention in another way. Various teams in the league are protesting against the Mumbai Indians playing at their home ground Wankhede next season.

They are raising objections, alleging that playing Mumbai in Wankhede will give them an undue advantage. Teams that do not want the Mumbai Indians to play in Wankhede have no objection to them playing at Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium or MCA Stadium in Pune.

‘No team will get the benefit of playing at home this time. In this case, the other teams are of the view that allowing only the Mumbai Indians to play at Wankhede Stadium would give them an undue advantage. They have no objection to Mumbai Indians playing in other venues in Mumbai itself. However, they do not want to be allowed to play in Wankhede, where they have been playing for years, ” an Times team spokesperson was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Even when the first phase of the season was played in India, the BCCI had ensured that not a single team would get the upper hand at home. The teams want the same move to continue this season.

At the same time, the BCCI is facing a major challenge in arranging training venues for teams in the IPL, which is limited to Maharashtra. According to a Times of India report, the BCCI is planning to use the Navi Mumbai Cricket Stadium and Bandra Kurla Complex facilities for training sessions.
