Tunisian rapper Karim Gharbi, known as “Kadorim,” has announced his candidacy for the presidential elections scheduled for October 6.

“The situation in Tunisia is delicate and sensitive and requires unifying ranks, regardless of the differences,” Kadourim said in a video he posted on his Instagram page.

He added: “We must pause and reflect on what Tunisia is experiencing today. We all know how Tunisia has become, with restrictions on media professionals, lawyers, intellectuals, opinion holders, and human rights defenders.”

He continued, saying: “We always hear, ‘Send someone to prison’, deposit cards, listing for inspection, summonses to court because of a word or a caricature on the meaning of the infamous Decree 54. These are the achievements we see today,” adding: “The lines are on bread, sugar and basic materials, and they say they are monopolists.”

Karim Gharbi stressed that “the decision to run was not easy, but he chose to take the plunge,” noting that “he hopes to live up to the hopes and aspirations,” and “he stated that he has many projects for Tunisia in the economic, cultural, and especially social fields.”

It is noteworthy that President Kais Saied issued an order on July 2 calling on Tunisian voters to participate in the presidential elections and set October 6, 2024 as the date for the elections.
