Alleging that the government has carried out indiscriminate killings to suppress the quota reform movement, Amara Bangladesh Party has demanded the resignation of the government taking responsibility for these killings. The group also demanded an inquiry under the UN to find out the true number of killings and in the interest of justice.
AB Party convener AFM Solaiman Chowdhury and member secretary Mojibur Rahman Manju made this claim in a statement on Sunday (July 28).
They said that more than 9,000 people have already been arrested across the country among the protesting student society and opposition political leaders and activists. Five coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement were brought to the DB office and tortured. A large number of students are being harassed in various places by filing false cases against them.
They also said that President of Public Rights Council and former Daksu VP Nurul Haque Noor was remanded and tortured. Mass arrests are being carried out with block raids in the dark of night to terrorize the general student population. From which women, teenagers and senior citizens are not spared.
The leaders strongly condemned and protested this harassment across the country and told the government that the end of dictatorship was never saved by mass killings or mass arrests. No one can survive by fighting the people, and neither can you. Resign yourself by taking responsibility for the murder. People no longer want to see you in power.
