The SCR Altach has surprisingly been eliminated in the first round of the ÖFB Cup as the first football Bundesliga team. The Vorarlberg team, coached by Joachim Standfest, lost 0:2 (0:1) against regionalliga team SR Donaufeld in Vienna on Saturday, thus ruining their season start. The third-division team took the lead with a spectacular shot from Antonio Babic into the top corner (14th minute), and in the closing stages, Floris van Zaanen sealed the upset with a penalty kick (89th minute).
On Friday, six Bundesliga teams, including runners-up Red Bull Salzburg, LASK, Hartberg, Austria Klagenfurt, WAC, and GAK, already advanced to the next round. Only the promoted team from Graz had to sweat away against the fourth-division team Velden and only progressed after a penalty shootout. On Saturday, SK Sturm followed, defeating SC Krems 4:2 after extra time.
Of three other representatives from Styria, only one made it to the second round on Saturday: the ASK Voitsberg won 3:0 against SV Donau after an own goal by Sezen (8th minute) as well as goals from Kirnbauer (77th minute) and Suppan (85th minute). St. Anna (1:5 against Admira) and Wildon (0:5) against Blau Weiß Linz have been eliminated.
