The president of Emelec spoke about several issues related to the team and highlighted the first semester they are having.
The most talked about topics around Emelec in recent days were the continuity of Hernán Torres and the possible call-up of Pedro Ortiz to the Ecuadorian national team. José Pileggi, president of Emelec, spoke clearly about these topics.
The manager clarified the Colombian coach’s contractual situation and said that the agreement is until December. He also supported Torres’ work and said that from a numerical point of view, Bombillo is having a good year.
«It has an automatically renewed contract, under an agreement established between the parties.. And there is a continuation agreement. All this was agreed in December of last year and that is how he (Hernán Torres) was received in January,” Pileggi explained in an interview with Redonda radio.
“The Hernán Torres issue was talked about all month long. For me it’s all a plan by people who want to annoy us. We are satisfied with him, he is a gentleman, a serious man, he has established discipline in the club.“, he added about the technical director’s work.

He also praised the numerical achievements that Torres has made in this first semester. Where they have only lost one match and have the team in fifth place in the standings with 21 points.
«Until recently we were unbeaten for 13 games until we lost to Aucas. In life, beyond whether I like a game or not, it is the statistics that mark a path of how we are,” he added.

Regarding goalkeeper Pedro Ortiz, Pileggi highlighted him as the best in the country. He also said that he should be called up to the Ecuadorian national team, where he has not been since coach Félix Sánchez Bas arrived. He also revealed that he spoke with Francisco Egas, president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) about this issue.
“Pedro Ortiz is the best goalkeeper in the country. It would be an injustice if he wasn’t called up to the national team. I have spoken a couple of times with Francisco Egas about this. He has told me that the selection only depends on the coach,” he specified.
