Static electricity, friction, accidental release, faulty pyrotechnic materials or human error could be the cause of the Elin Pelin tragedy – these versions should be addressed by the investigating authorities. Prof. Stancho Petkov, an explosives expert who has followed all major explosions over the years and worked as a field director, stated this to Nova TV.
As an example, he gave unregulated carrying of phones inside warehouses. He explained that static electricity from jessem could be the cause of the tragedy. Working without proper clothing can also be a cause.
In his opinion, anything is possible when working with pyrotechnics. It gives an example of another tragedy – back in 1985, 9 people were burned while unloading pyrotechnic equipment. “This business is too dangerous and risky, so all possible safety rules must be observed, and they are not few,” the professor is emphatic.
In his opinion, the distance from one warehouse to another should be such that if one is compromised, it does not affect others around it.
According to Prof. Petkov, depending on what quantity is stored in the warehouses, it can be assessed whether it is appropriate to locate it near a populated place and near a gas pipeline.
The authorities should be extremely vigilant about the sixth warehouse in question, which did not explode. It is not clear what decomposition or any effect the intense temperature has had on the equipment stored in the warehouse.
As an erudite person, a professional in the field of pyrotechnics, Prof. Petkov described the deceased Prof. Shishkov. He shared that he had the opportunity to be a reviewer of his scientific work and expressed his condolences to the family.
