The multiple award-winning “Journalist of the Year” was regarded as a distinguished writer in the media scene of Burgenland
Governor Hans Peter Doskozil expressed deep sorrow over the death of the highly acclaimed journalist and author Wolfgang Weisgram, who served for more than three decades as a sports editor and Burgenland correspondent for the Austrian daily newspaper DER STANDARD. “Journalistically and personally, Wolfgang Weisgram was unique. His texts were unmistakable and characterized by a very special style, fond of language and rich in nuances. With Wolfgang Weisgram, Burgenland is losing not only a passionate journalist and book author who wrote about Burgenland in all its facets – but also an outstanding person who richly gifted our homeland with his inspiration and storytelling talent. My heartfelt condolences go to his family during these hours, especially his daughter,” said Governor Doskozil. Wolfgang Weisgram was honored multiple times as “Journalist of the Year” and additionally received the media award from the Burgenland Foundation Theodor Kery this year.
Wolfgang Weisgram was born in 1957 in Bad Vöslau. After studying Theater Studies and Journalism, the football-loving journalist had been working since 1988 at the Austrian daily newspaper DER STANDARD in various capacities. The journalist, who lived in Marz, was also the author of numerous books and publications, primarily on the subject of football, one of his great passions.
