/ French football legend and former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has decided on his position regarding coaching the Algerian national team, succeeding Djamel Belmadi.
Last Wednesday, the President of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Saadi, announced Belmadi’s departure from the national team following the surprising exit from the first round of the African Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to the French newspaper “L’Equipe”, immediately after the announcement of Belmadi’s departure, the Algerian Football Federation began searching intensively for a new coach.
The Frenchman Herve Renard, the Bosnian Vahid Halilhodzic and other coaches (Petkovic, Sampaoli…) were among the names studied by the Algerian football officials to supervise the “Desert Warriors”.
But according to L’Equipe, the new strongman of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Saadi, immediately thought of Zinedine Zidane (51 years old), whose roots go back to Algeria.
The French newspaper added that Zidane was very happy to be nominated to coach his parents’ national team, but he rejected the Algerian offer.
She also pointed out that Zidane, who has not been linked to any team since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, rejected two other offers to coach Brazil and the United States, and still dreams of leading the French national team.
