“It’s an important match for both teams. Playing against Morocco is not easy. They have high-level players. It will be complicated. This CAN has a lot of surprises in store for us. Great nations have fallen. We can expect anything,” he said at a pre-match press conference.
“We already beat Morocco last June. We want to repeat this feat tomorrow, but we have to reach a high level to do so and create a lot of goal-scoring opportunities,” he stressed.
“With the heat, we hope to bend the debate in our favor in regulation time. If we go into extra time, it will be complicated. We will do everything possible not to go beyond regulation time,” he added.
Noting that his team will play Tuesday’s match with high morale, Hugo Broos said a victory against Morocco seems possible.
“If we start this match with the same mindset as in previous matches, we will be able to create a surprise tomorrow,” he said.
“We are in the phase of building our team. It is a new experience for us. We want to take this step,” he said, insisting that the most important thing is to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The Moroccan selection qualified for the round of 16 of CAN-2023 by finishing at the top of Group F with seven points, obtained in two victories against Tanzania (3-0) and Zambia (1-0) and a draw against DR Congo (1-1).
For its part, South Africa finished in 2nd place in group E with four points behind Mali (5 pts).
