From Sunday, July 28, at 7 p.m. to today, July 29, at 12 p.m., the Jūrmala municipality police have registered more than 50 calls about various storm damage.

As Cepurīte explains, the calls are mainly related to broken trees on roadways, damage to the electricity supply infrastructure, damage to municipal and private property.

The storm caused damage in many neighborhoods of Jūrmala, but especially a lot of damage was found in the neighborhoods of Kauguri, Jaunkëmeri, Vaivari, Slokas, Asari, Melluži, Majori and Dzintari.

Currently, the municipality, in cooperation with the State Fire and Rescue Service, has succeeded in removing broken trees from roadways, as well as taken measures to cordon off various damage sites, pull out stuck cars and identify flooded areas.

The Jūrmala administration’s visitor service centers also continuously receive information about broken trees and broken large tree branches in public places, flooded streets and sidewalks, but the situation is changing – the water level changes. Currently, no information has been received about significant damage to municipal buildings or infrastructure, says Cepurīte.

Currently, all operational services are performing primary urgent work – clearing roadways from wind-broken branches in strategically important public places to ensure the possibility of movement of operational services.

It will be possible to begin to identify the total damages caused by the storm and to start their general prevention only after the end of the natural disaster, emphasizes the representative of the municipality.
