Patna: Election strategist Prashant Kishore will contest the Bihar assembly elections next year with his party ‘Jan Suraj’. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj campaign will officially turn into a political party. Prashant Kishore is working on a strategy to spoil the game of Nitish-Tejaswi and BJP in the Bihar elections. PK is going among the public and telling the flaws of the parties in power in Bihar, as well as strengthening his ground. In this sequence, Prashant Kishore’s eyes are on the legacy of former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, due to which he has included Karpoori Thakur’s granddaughter Dr. Jagriti Thakur in Jan Suraj. Let us tell you, Prashant Kishore started the Jan Suraj campaign on October 2 last year. Since then PK has been doing padayatra in Bihar. During this time, he is continuously attacking the rule of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Prashant Kishore addressed a state level workshop of Jan Suraj in Patna on Sunday. During this, he said that on October 2, about one crore members will lay the foundation of Jan Suraj on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. On the first day, 1.50 lakh people will be nominated as office bearers. He said that he himself will not lead the party. Who will be the leader of the party? This decision will be taken at the right time.
Jagriti Thakur, granddaughter of Karpuri Thakur took membership of Jan Suraj
In this workshop, many people including Jagriti Thakur, granddaughter of former MLA and late socialist leader Karpuri Thakur, took membership of Jan Suraj Abhiyan. Prashant welcomed everyone. Let us tell you, Jagriti’s father Virendra Nath Thakur is the younger son of Karpuri Thakur. Both Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav consider Karpuri Thakur as their guru and claim to carry forward his legacy.
Those who joined Jan Suraj include former Bihar minister Monajir Hasan, former RJD MLC Rambali Singh Chandravanshi, former IPS officer Anand Mishra and JD(U) leader Mangani Lal Mandal’s daughter Priyanka.
Why is PK eyeing Karpuri Thakur’s legacy?
Karpoori Thakur was the Chief Minister of Bihar twice and is called ‘Jananayak’. He died in 1988. This year, the Modi government at the center announced to give him ‘Bharat Ratna’ on his 100th birth anniversary. This step of BJP was seen as a move to strengthen its hold in Bihar. Nitish Kumar sent Karpoori Thakur’s elder son Ramnath Thakur to Rajya Sabha from JDU and gave a message to the backward society by making him a minister of state in the Modi government.
Actually Karpoori Thakur belonged to the extremely backward caste of Bihar, Nai. Extremely backward castes are the largest caste group in Bihar, which is about 36 percent of the state’s population. After this, the second largest class is the backward class, which represents 27.12 percent of the population in the state. All the parties keep an eye on this vote bank. This vote bank of the state plays an important role in power.
Who will be harmed by Jagriti Thakur joining Jan Suraj?
It is believed that Prashant Kishore’s party can present Jagriti as the legacy of Karpoori Thakur. In fact, a large part of the OBC vote bank in Bihar has so far been with the parties of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav. Prashant Kishore is also trying to make inroads among every section. In such a situation, if Prashant Kishore succeeds in presenting Jagriti Thakur as the legacy of Karpoori Thakur, then JDU, RJD and BJP may suffer losses.
