Spanish pilot Carlos Sainz will join the “Williams” team in Formula 1 from next season, the website formula1.com reported.
Thus, the 29-year-old Spaniard will sign a multi-year contract with the British team and will be a teammate from next season with Alexander Albon from Thailand.
For a long time there has been speculation as to where the Spaniard, who is leaving Ferrari at the end of this year to make way for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, will continue his career.
Sainz was negotiating with Williams, Alpine and Sauber for a long-term contract from 2025.
“I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025. It is no secret that the driver market has been extremely difficult this year for various reasons and it has taken me a while to announce my decision. However, I am confident that Williams is the right place for me to continue my journey in Formula 1 and I am very proud to be joining such a historic and successful team where my childhood heroes were. The main goal is to get Williams back where it belongs – at the head of the standings,” said Carlos Sainz.
“Carlos is one of the most talented drivers. He will bring us not only experience, but also a great desire to win every second for the team and the car – this is the perfect combination,” said Williams director James Vowles.
The signing of Carlos Sainz means that American driver Logan Sergeant will be released at the end of the season.
