Popular musician Hasan Abidur Reza Jewel has passed away. He breathed his last on Tuesday (July 30) at 11:53 am while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in the capital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
The news of Jewel’s death was told to the media by his brother Mahibur Reza Rubel. He said, ‘Jewell has fought a lot in the last few days. In the end he did not return. Everyone will pray for the salvation of his soul.’
Regarding Jewel’s funeral and burial, he said that Jewel’s funeral will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan today. Mahibur Reza Rubel also said that burial will be done at Banani cemetery after evening.
Jewel was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2011. Then the cancer spread to the lungs and bones. Since then he was being treated in various hospitals in the country and abroad. When his physical condition deteriorated again, he was admitted to a private hospital in the capital. The singer was kept on life support there.
In 1993, Jewel’s first album ‘Kuasha Prahar’ was released. It was followed by successive releases like ‘Ek Bickel’ (1994), ‘Amar Chai Dhaknam’ (1995), ‘Ekta Mansoor’ (1996), ‘Dekha Hobe Na’ (1997), ‘Beshi Kuch Nai’ (1998), ‘Bedna Only’. Bedna’ (1999), ‘Firti Pathe’ (2003), ‘Darja Khola Bari’ (2009), ‘Emon Ken Holo’ (2017).
Jewel released two more albums with one song each. These are – ‘Tate Ki Ba Ase Jay’ (2016), ‘Ae Sabujer Dhankhet’ (2016). The singer gained great popularity after the release of the album ‘Ek Bickel’ in 1994.
Although best known as a musician, Jewell is also known as a producer of TV shows and documentaries. He has also hosted many TV shows.
