The Christmas and spring vacations will be longer in the new school year
At least 3 tourist sites will have to be visited by the students when they go on a field trip. This states a change in the regulation on the organization of activities in school education, published for public discussion on the government portal. Every school trip must include an educational route, and the sites must be
in thematic areas such as history, geography, natural sciences, arts, ethnography
The Ministry of Education will prepare a list of sample sites that children can visit.
Until now, there is no condition that binds school trips to visiting tourist sites. And the intention for this to happen was announced by the Minister of Education Prof. Galin Tsokov a month ago. Then he announced that a change in the regulation was being prepared, according to which school trips could be organized only if the program included a visit to several sites related to history, archaeology, culture or natural sciences.
Education as a process includes not only training, but also upbringing and socialization, that is why it is proposed to implement educational routes during student tourist trips, motivated now by the Ministry of Education and Culture with the changes in the regulation. “Through the realization of the routes, conditions will be created for the preservation and affirmation of the Bulgarian national identity, for the promotion of Bulgarian traditions and culture. During the site visits, through educational interactions outside the school and family environment, students will have the opportunity to build values”, the ministry added.
An educational route does not need to be planned when children travel for Olympiads. And if the regulation enters into force at a time when contracts have already been concluded between the schools and tour operators, then the excursion will be able to take place, the changes state.
To have a longer Christmas and spring vacation in the upcoming school year, the Ministry of Education and Culture also suggests. The children’s vacation schedule is published for public discussion on the department’s website and is open to comments and suggestions.
The first vacation for the students will be the autumn one for 3 days – from November 1 to 3. If this is accepted, it will be two days shorter than last year, when students were on vacation from October 28 to November 1, because it also coincided with local elections.
However, this year’s Christmas break may be longer. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports suggests that students take 13 days off – from December 24 to January 5, 2025 inclusive.
The mid-term vacation will again be only one day – on February 4 (Tuesday).
The spring break will be longer
– from April 12 to 21. That’s a total of 10 days, compared to 9 last year. The twelfth graders, who at that time will be preparing for the matriculation exams, will rest later – only 5 days after Easter.
The days on which the exams will be held will again be non-school days. The matura in Bulgarian language and literature will be on May 20, and the one in profiling subject – on May 22. A month later, there will be exams after grade 7 – on June 18 in Bulgarian language and literature and on June 20 – in mathematics.
