In a statement to MAP, Mr. Amraoui affirmed that His Majesty the King calls on the competent authorities to accelerate the completion of ongoing projects, to work to ensure the efficiency of the installations, through the use of new technologies and innovation, and to promote training in the field of water.
Faced with successive years of drought, Morocco has embarked, he recalled, on a series of initiatives to diversify its water supply sources, adding that these measures include the construction of new dams to maximize storage during rainy periods, the improvement of distribution networks, as well as the strengthening of desalination infrastructure.
In this sense, the researcher highlighted the importance of reusing wastewater and strengthening the drinking water supply network in rural areas, as well as the basin interconnection program that will allow the transfer of water from surplus regions, particularly in the north of the Kingdom, to those in deficit.
He also considered that Morocco should be able to overcome the challenges related to the supply of drinking water thanks to the ambitious desalination program which will serve, first and foremost, the coastal cities.
Periods of bad weather are cyclical, he observed, noting that the Kingdom will have the opportunity to better redistribute water to all regions of the country by taking advantage of possible rainy years to replenish reserves, as well as through efforts aimed at strengthening hydraulic infrastructure.
