(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 30 – In Italy, between 2022 and 2024, the percentage of people who have cryptocurrencies in their portfolios has more than doubled, from 8 to 18%. And those who make sustainable investments have gone from 11 to 20%. This is what emerges from the Consob report on the investment choices of Italian families according to which, furthermore, young people and women prefer social media to look for useful information to guide their investments. In the financial field, social media are in fact the primary source of information for one in two young people between the ages of 18 and 34 (58%), and for 42% of women. According to the Consob report, social media beat print and online newspapers and are in third place, after the Internet and TV, in the ranking of the sources of information most used by Italian families to guide their investment choices. In addition to young people and women, the tendency to use social media is more pronounced among those with less basic knowledge in the financial field and less available funds to invest. But the phenomenon increases the exposure to the risk of falling into the trap of financial fraud or making unaware investment decisions. Social media as a source of information is relevant not only for young people and women but also for 34% of men, for families that manage sums of less than 50,000 euros (41% compared to 33% of those with higher available funds) and for those with a low level of financial education (55% compared to 33%). The study also highlights that the financial decision-maker is usually the member of the family with the highest income and is also the one primarily responsible for managing finances. In 78% of cases, this is a man with an average age of 51. This confirms the consolidated gender gap that characterizes the Italian context with reference not only to salary aspects but also to social and cultural ones. The primary objective in investment choices is capital protection (81%) compared to 55% of interviewees who instead set themselves the goal of capital growth. (ANSA).
