The opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics will take place on Friday evening, July 26, and promises to be a historic event. The event will take place in Paris and will feature thousands of athletes. The broadcast will begin at 8:30 p.m.
Olympic organisers have decided to move away from the traditional stadium opening scenario. Instead, they will hold a boat parade on the Seine River, and the official presentation of the athletes will take place at the Trocadero, next to the Eiffel Tower.
Thousands of athletes will take part in the river parade along the banks of the Seine. About 100 boats, carrying representatives of more than 200 countries, will sail from the Pont d’Austerlitz west past historic Parisian landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum to the Place du Trocadero. Here, the Olympic flame will be lit and the Games will be declared open.
The athletes will be dressed in national costumes that highlight their cultural heritage. For example, the Brazilian athletes’ denim jackets feature local fauna, while the Guatemalans will decorate their boats with folklore hats and bags. Particular attention was drawn to the Mongolian athletes’ costumes, designed by the Michel&Amazonka brand, which combine national elements and Olympic symbols.
The opening ceremony is expected to attract around 600,000 spectators, 104,000 of whom have already purchased tickets for the stands. The parade will be accompanied by 400 dancers, and 206 delegations from countries will take part in the event. 80 giant screens in different parts of Paris will broadcast the event live.
