Lyubomir Epitropov performed superbly in the 200m breaststroke semi-finals of the program of the Paris Olympic swimming tournament, but, unfortunately, fell a measly 4 hundredths short of a place in tomorrow night’s medal distribution competition.
The 25-year-old from Tarn got off to a good start in the second heat of the top 16. He then swam evenly to turn on the turbo in the final 50m and finish 4th in 2.09.93mins. However, it was not enough.
8th Joshua Yong of Australia entered the final in 2.09.89 min.
In the morning in the series, Epitropov swam in 2,10,59 min.
Our national team participated for the second time in a row in the Olympic final after the one 3 years ago in Tokyo.
Despite missing the final in Paris, the year is definitely the most successful for Epitropov, who in June became the first Bulgarian in history to win a European title in the 50-meter pool. He triumphed in the 200m breaststroke in Belgrade.
Otherwise, world champion Leon Marchand from France was the fastest in the semi-finals with 2.08.11 seconds.
