The State Government launched a Business Intelligence (BI) platform, which translates to business intelligence in Portuguese, containing data regarding the seven state universities of Paraná. The launch took place last Friday (26) during a meeting of the State Education Council in Curitiba. Citizens can access the information on the page of the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education (Seti).
The platform was developed by the technical team of Seti and brings together information on the number of courses and vacancies offered in undergraduate and stricto sensu graduate programs. The data is organized to allow for easy navigation with the possibility of using filters to check the number of vacancies offered, identify the characteristics of the courses such as degree (Bachelor’s and Licentiate), shifts, and the municipality where the course is offered.
The information is separated into in-person undergraduate, technological, master’s, doctoral, and medical and multiprofessional residency programs.
It is also possible to access data about the classification of the university courses in the Preliminary Course Concept (CPC) and the Capes Concept, indices that show the performance assessment of undergraduate and graduate courses, respectively. The platform gathers and directs users to the websites of the institutions with specific information about the selected course, such as the number of teachers, workload, and duration.
The state secretary of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Aldo Nelson Bona, explains that the platform is a tool created to make public the information about state universities. “The platform is an important instrument for generating information and making these data about our state higher education system available to the entire population. The BI is located on the Seti page and can be consulted by all interested in understanding the numbers of our system,” he states.
With this tool, universities, students, and interested citizens can consult updated information about the public higher education maintained by the State Government. For managers working in higher education, the platform assists in monitoring information regarding the courses to guide public higher education policies.
Seti has been developing this platform since April, and the goal is to expand the availability of data, such as the inclusion of the number of enrolled students. For the creation of this tool, data was collected from state universities and organized by the secretary. Currently, state universities offer 438 in-person undergraduate courses, 208 master’s courses, 105 doctoral programs, and 147 medical and multiprofessional residency offers in 29 municipalities in Paraná.
