In light of the recent accusations by the National Executive towards the National Assembly, the head of the legislative bloc of the Social Christian Party (PSC), Vicente Taiano, stressed the need not to be distracted by what he called ““smoke screens”.

In an interview with Pichincha Universal, Taiano stressed that such accusations seek to divert attention from the real problems facing the country.

“This type of false accusations, like those generated over the weekend, are simply part of this smokescreen that is meant to distract us all and has a major communication objective,” said Taiano, referring to the statements made by the Executive that attempt to discredit the legislative work.

Taiano also highlighted the effective work carried out by the National Assembly in compliance with the popular mandate, especially on critical issues such as the increase in sentences established by the popular consultation. “The mandate of the consultation that the citizens ratified was to increase sentences and that is precisely what the National Assembly has done,” he said.

Regarding legislative management, Taiano highlighted the efforts of the Oversight Commission to properly oversee the use of public resources and promote transparency. “It is essential to continue working to improve public management and ensure that resources effectively reach those who need them most,” said Taiano, emphasizing the responsibility of the legislature in this process.

In addition, the president of the Oversight Committee criticized the lack of management by the Executive in critical areas such as health, where the shortage of medicines and the poor attention to citizens have been evident. “It is indisputable that there is a lack of management and for that the evidence, look for example at the same subject that we have discussed today about health,” said Taiano.

In the context of a pre-election year, Taiano also referred to the challenges that the legislature faces in fulfilling a complete and effective legislative agenda. “How complex it is for the legislature to carry out an entire legislative agenda when we are in a transition process,” he said.

Finally, Vicente Taiano urged the Executive to concentrate on solving the country’s urgent problems and fulfilling its responsibilities to the citizens. “There is no better way to win an election than compliance, than resolution, than addressing what has not been addressed,” he concluded.
