The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Barcenathanked the president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arevalo for the support provided to Mexican refugees in that country, who were displaced from their localities due to violence generated by organized crime.
“Thank you President Bernardo Arévalo for Guatemala’s support to our compatriots in Cuilco, Huehuetenango. Together with the Secretary of Foreign Relations Our consuls are providing assistance and planning their voluntary and safe return to their homeland,” he wrote on social media.
It is worth mentioning that families fled Chiapas due to the violence generated by organized crime. Children, elderly people, men and women – carrying some plastic bags with the most necessary things – were received by residents of communities on the Guatemalan border, who gave them shelter.

Meanwhile, the governments of Mexico and Guatemala are collaborating closely with the goal of offering care and protection to the group of Mexican people who are in the border municipality of CuilcoHuehuetenando, Guatemala. And both countries have committed to offering assistance, food and support to the people.
