“The Godfather” is fifty years old: Al Pacino almost fired, Brando’s jokes on the set and the other 15 secrets of the film

by time news

The first chapter in the history of the Corleone family arrived in cinemas all over the world in 1972: we are talking about “The Godfather”, the first film in the trilogy signed by director Francis Ford Coppola freely inspired by the novel of the same name written by Mario Puzo. The film, set in New York in the middle of the war (between the end of the forties and the first half of the fifties), had a great success as well as a strong impact on popular culture (countless parodies, citations and references related to the saga). In the role of the protagonist, Don Vito Corleone (head of the homonymous mafia family which over time has become one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the Big Apple), we find Marlon Brando. After the death of his son Santino Corleone known as Sonny (James Caan lends his face to him), the boss will leave the reins of his empire in the hands of his youngest son, Michael Corleone / Al Pacino. Next to them, on stage, many characters alternate, from the adviser of don Vito Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) to the sons of the godfather Fredo (John Cazale) and Connie (Talia Shire), from the men of the clan such as Peter Clemenza (Richard S. Castellano) and Salvatore Tessio (Abe Vigoda) to Kay Adams, great love of Michael (Diane Keaton). Here is a collection of little-known anecdotes and curiosities.
