(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 31 – Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 by and with Kevin Costner, and with Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone and Danny Huston, will have its world premiere out of competition on Saturday 7 September, completing the lineup of the 81st Venice Film Festival (28 August-7 September). Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 will also be presented at the festival on the same day, before Chapter 2. Horizon: An American Saga, Chapters 1 and 2 (New Line Cinema), is a multifaceted chronicle of the Civil War and the colonization of the American West. It is a history of America too vast for a single film, which Kevin Costner also wrote with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produced with his Territory Pictures. “My dream,” says Kevin Costner, “was to present Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 at the Venice Film Festival. The fact that Chapter 1 will now be screened first at the Lido, followed by the world premiere of Chapter 2, demonstrates not only how the two films are connected, but also the support for a director’s vision. I am indebted to Alberto Barbera for the courage he has shown in committing himself to this cinematic journey. It is with gratitude and emotion that I return to the Festival. Long live films and those who want to support them.” “It is a great pleasure and an honor,” comments Barbera, “to host the world premiere of Chapter 2 of Horizon: An American Saga, together with Chapter 1. This new entry in the Venice Film Festival program pays heartfelt and respectful homage to the visionary project of a great actor and director, who committed himself to the epic reconstruction of the crucial years of the foundation of his country, digging beyond the myth in search of that authenticity capable of restoring a piece of history in its complex and contradictory reality.” In the grand tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the allure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s cinematic adventure takes audiences on a thrilling journey through a country at war with itself, through the lens of families, friends and enemies trying to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America. Costner returns to directing for the first time since 2003’s Open Range, revisiting the Civil War-era setting of his 1990 directorial debut, the blockbuster Dances with Wolves, which won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. He produces alongside Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard, with Danny Peykoff, Robert Scannell, Armyan Bernstein, Charlie Lyons, Barry Berg and Rod Lake serving as executive producers. Behind the camera, Kevin Costner is joined by director of photography J. Michael Muro (Billionaire Boys Club, Parker), production designer Derek R. Hill (Jack Ryan, The Magnificent Seven), editor Miklos Wright (For All Mankind, Open Range), and costume designer Lisa Lovaas (Ambulance, Transformers: The Last Knight). The music is composed by Oscar nominee John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Greatest Showman). (ANSA).
