Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muktijoddha said that the government has taken the target of increasing fish export income. Abdur Rahman. The minister said this while addressing the chief guest at a function organized by the Department of Fisheries under the supervision of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and in collaboration with the Bangladesh Naval Police on the occasion of celebrating the National Fisheries Week 2024.

This member of the presidium of Awami League said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said, fish will be our second major economic currency earning sector. We are working towards that goal. After satisfying the needs of the country, we should now focus on exports. All rivers, drains, canals, banks should be brought under fish farming. Initiatives will be taken to rehabilitate old and abandoned rotten ponds, sinks, ponds so that fish production can be taken to the desired level.

Stating that this year’s National Fisheries Week is being observed with the theme of ‘Bharbo Mache Moder Desh, Garbo Smart Bangladesh’, the Fisheries Minister said that we should find as many places suitable for fish farming as possible and bring them under fish farming. Only then we can achieve the target of 65 lakh metric tons of fish production in 2030.

At this time, he sought cooperation from journalists to stop the use of banned harmful current nets, Behundi nets, China nets.

The minister said that 22 individuals and organizations have been awarded the National Fisheries Medal 2024 in 7 categories in recognition of their contribution to the fisheries sector this year. Among which there are 6 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 8 bronze medals. He commented that the entrepreneurs and fish farmers will be motivated in fish farming as a result of giving this award.

After delivering the speech, the minister participated in the naval rally.
