The Leon case: the murder investigation in Innsbruck is nearing its end

The case of a father who is said to have killed his elderly son, Leon, has caused confusion. Now it’s board time.
In the execution judgment of the In the death of six-year-old Leon, the final arguments were held in the district court of Innsbruck. The public prosecutor’s office also stated its belief that the 39-year-old father put his mentally challenged son in the flowing river in August 2022, thus killing him.
The defense, however, said that the investigators had made mistakes. During the trial, the defendant’s lawyers also pointed to the lack of motive because the father loved his son. In his closing speech, the defendant said that whatever the jury decides, it will not be a happy ending for him and his family.
The judges take their turn
After arguments, eight judges retired for their decisions. They decide whether the 39-year-old is guilty or innocent. Most of the juries are required for guilty verdicts. The duration of the consultations is unclear. Experience has shown that the struggle to make a decision can take several hours. Immediately before the interviews, a lawyer was removed from the trial due to bias and replaced. After judging the crime, the judges and the three judges will deliberate on the sentence.
The defendant stuck to his version
During the three-day trial, the defendant, who is from Germany, stuck to his version of events. Thus, he went on a journey with his son in a horse-drawn carriage on the river road in St. Johann in Tirol in the early morning of August 28, 2022. An unknown person attacked him and hit him with a bottle. He was unconscious for a while. During those minutes, his son got out of the stroller and fell into the river.
The mother does not think that the father is the killer
The child’s mother testified as a witness in the trial. She explained that she did not think that her husband could commit murder. He was a loving father to Leon, the mother said in her very emotional statement.
Experts appear to support the charges
Expert reports also play an important role in the process. An expert review suggests that the version of the suspect may not be accurate. They said that the head wound of the 39-year-old was not so severe that he could not be unconscious for a long time.
Referring to the IT experts, the public prosecutor pointed out that the unknown accused did not even try to unlock the defendant’s phone during the robbery. The smartphone was found in a nearby trash can. According to an expert, he only has 39-year-old fingers.
There is a risk of life imprisonment
In addition to the suspicion of murder, the accused must also answer for the charge of forgery an act that can be punished. He faces life in prison if convicted.
