by time news

Throughout the night, firefighting forces will fight against the flames of a fire that broke out in the afternoon hours of Monday in a forested area near the settlement of Petries in the municipality of Kymi- Aliveri in Evia.

According to the Fire Service, the intensity of the fire and the winds has decreased, with the wildfire showing a better picture and its main front located inside the triangle formed by the settlements of Petries, Krieza, and Alonia.

The Fire Service forces have been deployed around the fire, making efforts to contain it.

Strong ground forces remain on site, specifically 205 firefighters with 11 teams of foot patrols and 56 vehicles.

With the first light of day, aerial resources will assist in extinguishing the fire with water drops from above.

It is noted that 26 aerial resources, specifically 16 aircraft and 10 helicopters, including 2 for coordination, operated from the air.

The Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikilias, has also gone to the scene.

Five messages from 112

According to the Fire Service, the fire broke out around 15:17 on Monday in a forested area and subsequently evolved into an agro-forestry area, quickly taking on dangerous dimensions mainly due to the strong northern winds blowing in the area.

For this reason, 5 messages were issued from 112, initially to inform residents near the area where the fire broke out and subsequently for their evacuation from the settlements of Krieza, Koskinas, and Petries.
