Vålerenga Triumphs Over Ranheim Amidst Fan Protests Against VAR

by time news

VÅLERENGA – RANHEIM 3-1:

The match between league leader Vålerenga and Ranheim was barely a few minutes old when it was stopped by the referee.

The reason is that objects, including pastries, were thrown from Østblokka – the stand section where Vålerenga’s supporters are located.

At the same time, several banners with the text “No to VAR” were held up, while the fans sang “Hate damn VAR”.

Within a few minutes, the field was cleared and the match was restarted.

There is no VAR in the Obosligaen, but parts of the Vålerenga fans have undoubtedly taken a stance on the issue of video officiating in Norwegian football.

Just over a week ago, the match between Rosenborg and Lillestrøm was interrupted after both teams’ supporters repeatedly threw objects onto the pitch.

It has been decided that the match between RBK and LSK will resume and be completed in front of empty stands.

Geir Bakke and Vålerenga are in second place in the Obosligaen and with a victory over Ranheim, they will surpass Moss and take the top of the table.

The Oslo club has a clear goal of being promoted back to the Eliteserien after last year’s surprising relegation.

Kåre Ingebrigtsen and his Ranheim lie in ninth place in the Obosligaen.

Vålerenga won the match 3-1 after goals from Sebastian Jarl, Magnus Riisnæs, and Jones El-Abdellaoui. Gustav Mogensen scored Ranheim’s goal.
