The Colombian parliamentary delegation is making a working visit to Morocco at the invitation of the Chamber of Councilors, which is part of joint efforts to strengthen relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

During these talks, Mr. Mayara stressed “the particular importance of this visit, which reflects the true friendship between the two countries”, emphasizing “Morocco’s desire to move forward in strengthening bilateral relations in the service of common interests and the promotion of fruitful relations with Latin American countries”, indicates a press release from the chamber.

Mr. Mayara noted in this context that “the motion recently adopted by the Colombian Senate, concerning unequivocal support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco, constitutes a significant step in the right direction, which will not fail to consolidate parliamentary relations and advance bilateral cooperation for a common benefit that should not be affected by subjective and passing positions.”

In this regard, the chamber’s statement notes, Mr. Mayara expressed his “wish that the planned visit of the Colombian delegation to the southern provinces of the Kingdom could constitute an opportunity for its members to see first-hand the extent of the economic and social growth that this region is experiencing and thus to form a complete idea of the reality of the artificial conflict over the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.”

After explaining the progress made by Morocco in the areas of strengthening democracy, economic and social growth, as well as its constructive openness to the African continent, where it enjoys a distinguished economic and political presence, Mr. Mayara stressed that “Morocco’s ambition is to become a gateway from Latin America to the African continent.”

In the same context, Mr. Mayara emphasized “the willingness of the Chamber of Advisors to make greater efforts to strengthen this approach, making use of its distinguished relations with all Latin American parliamentary groups, within the framework of mutual respect and the preservation of common interests.”

For his part, Mr. German Blanco affirmed that the Colombian Senate is keen to develop Moroccan-Colombian relations in various areas, welcoming the feelings of friendship shown by the Kingdom of Morocco towards Colombia.

After presenting some data relating to internal political developments in Colombia, particularly with regard to its foreign relations, Mr. German Blanco said that “the position of the current Colombian government on the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom has harmed the interests of Colombia, which has sided with a separatist and terrorist movement not recognized by the United Nations,” he deplored.

The statement continued that Mr. German Blanco presented on this occasion a copy of the motion of the Colombian Senate in favor of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco, insisting that “the Senate, which is the direct representative of the Colombian people, will continue to promote bilateral relations between Morocco and Colombia and to highlight the many ties they share.”

These talks took place in the presence of the first vice-president of the Chamber of Advisors, Mr. Mohamed Hanin, the president of the Morocco-Colombia friendship group in the chamber, Mr. Jamal Al Ouardi, and the secretary general of the chamber, Mr. El Assad Zerouali.

The delegation of the Colombian Senate is composed, in addition to Mr. German Blanco, of Mr. Jose Luiz Perez Oyuela and Ms. Paola Holguin Moreno, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
