The Attorney General’s Office has asked the Supreme Court of Justice to sentence retired Army Brigadier General Yuber Armando Aranguren Rodríguez for the crimes of sexual harassment and slander committed against a second lieutenant when he served as commander of the 27th Brigade in Mocoa, Putumayo.

During his presentation before the magistrates of the Special Court of First Instance, the Second Deputy Prosecutor for Criminal Investigation and Trial stressed that the evidence collected showed that Aranguren Rodríguez used his position of power to habitually and persistently harass the officer. The harassment included sexual comments and remarks, both in public and in private, to which the lieutenant did not consent.

The Deputy Attorney General stressed that the actions of the Brigadier General perpetuate discrimination and violence against women, emphasizing the need to address these problems from the grassroots of society. She stated that Aranguren Rodríguez acted with malice, aware of the directives and protocols of the Gender Office of the military institution that prohibit such conduct.

Regarding the crime of slander, the Attorney General pointed out that Aranguren Rodríguez made inappropriate comments about the second lieutenant’s romantic relationship with another officer.suggesting that she was only interested in managing her salary. These comments, repeated and made in front of others, affected the honor and dignity of the second lieutenant.

The Deputy Prosecutor concluded that Aranguren Rodríguez was fully aware of the dishonorable nature of his statements and gestures, and acted deliberately to undermine the honor and moral integrity of the victim.

Request for Sentencing

The Attorney General’s Office, in its role as intervenor, has asked the Supreme Court of Justice to condemn Aranguren Rodríguez for her actions. This case underscores the importance of eradicating discrimination and violence against women, especially within institutions that should exemplify respect and equality.
