New Delhi: IndiGo Airlines on Thursday warned of flight delays due to heavy rains in Delhi. It is another matter that the company incurred the wrath of people by posting about it in a humorous manner on social media. IndiGo wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “We have a special message straight from heaven! The rain god has decided to shower Delhi with his blessings tonight. As a result, we expect heavy rain throughout the night.” With this warning, the company urged passengers to check the status of their flights before going to the airport.

Many passengers did not like the style of IndiGo’s tweet. They were already worried about the possibility of delays and cancellations of flights due to rain. Twitter user Karthik asked, ‘Passengers are facing problems. Are you happy with this, IndiGo?’

Abhishek Bakshi wrote, ‘Take it easy, Tiger! No one has ever announced a flight delay so happily.’

Journalist Jagruti Chandra wondered, “Why is IndiGo announcing potential flight delays with such enthusiasm? Are interns at work? Does (aviation) experience not matter?”

Social media manager on target

Some people blamed the airline’s social media manager. Many social media users advised IndiGo to adopt a formal tone in this matter. Faizal Farooqui, CEO of MouthShut.com, said, ‘Dear IndiGo – Sometimes it is okay to be formal and professional. Not everything can be fun. Fire your social media manager.’

Another Twitter user advised the airline: “Please reconsider your new social media employee.”

One social media user even asked why IndiGo was bothering to announce delays due to rains, as its flights never depart on time anyway.

Life disrupted due to heavy rain

Due to heavy rains in Delhi-NCR, life has been disrupted. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘red alert’ and said that clouds are covering Delhi from all four directions. People were appealed to avoid unnecessary travel in waterlogged areas. Meanwhile, both government and private schools remained closed. Hundreds of Delhiites shared scenes of waterlogging in their homes and roads on social media.
