A kiss with consequences: The kiss actually took place five days ago, but only now are discussions heating up. The French President is at the center of the conversation.
A moment of exuberance? At the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, French President Emmanuel Macron and his sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra were spotted kissing, which has sparked much discussion in retrospect. The reason for the delay is apparently that the intimate moment was lost in the celebrations – and only the photo document caused irritation afterwards. The French media outlet “Madame Figaro” was the first to identify the scene and report on the kiss.
The picture shows Oudéa-Castéra putting her arms around Macron’s neck, pulling him towards her and giving him what appears to be a rather heartfelt kiss on the cheek.
In the context of the scene, “Madame Figaro” speaks of a “strange kiss”. The minister “literally grabbed the president by the neck”, according to the paper. On social media, this is sometimes expressed even more drastically. Sharp remarks such as “get a room” can be read, as well as other flippant comments. A user on X also pointed out that Prime Minister Gabriel Attal looked in another direction during the kiss because he was so embarrassed by the behavior.
The French newspaper “Midi Libre” tries to calm the situation down. The “exuberant joy at the successful celebration” was certainly the reason for this moment – nothing more, but also nothing less.
So far, neither Macron nor Oudéa-Castéra have made any public statements about the incident. All those involved, who were also in close proximity to the opening ceremony in Paris that evening, have also remained silent. So far, it is not known how the respective partners reacted to the kiss and the subsequent reporting. Whether Brigitte Macron, for example, to whom the French President has been married since 2007, is enthusiastic about the public rapprochement remains (for now) unclear.
