After his exceptional Euro Cup, Dani Olmo has become one of Barça’s main targets this summer transfer window. Meetings between the club’s sports director, Deco, and the player’s representatives have taken place in recent weeks, and the agreement between both parties is complete, as the player from Terrassa only wanted to listen to Barça when he learned he could return to what was once his home in the lower categories.
What is still unclear is the agreement between Barça and the club that holds the player’s rights, Leipzig. The Barça club has made two offers. The first was rejected, and the second has not convinced the German club either. Dani Olmo had a release clause of 60 million euros that has already expired, but he remains committed to his club to let him leave for that amount. Barça’s offers are approaching that figure, including fixed and variable components, but they are not convincing Leipzig, which also does not want the sum to be paid in installments.
This is why in Germany they expect Olmo to join the team once he finishes the vacation he is enjoying after winning the Euro Cup with the Spanish national team. “Dani is invaluable to us, both as a player and as a person. We are under no pressure to sell him. As things stand today, we expect him to come back with us after his vacation. The rest remains to be seen,” said Rouven Schröder, sports director of Leipzig in statements to Sky Sport.
At Barça, they are convinced that the operation will ultimately be successful, but it may take longer to materialize than initially expected.
