At this consultative meeting, various countries expressed the need to ease tensions in Ukraine. Action on Russia, which has declared war on Ukraine, also appears to have been discussed. In this context, the Russian Government has requested the Government of India to support Russia in the event of any resolution by the United States and its allies against Russia at the United Nations.
Commenting on the resolution, senior Russian ambassador to Delhi Babushkin said, “We expect our Indian allies to support Russia.”
Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla said yesterday that India would decide its position on how the resolution would be finalized. He also said he expects a lot of changes to be made to the draft resolution.
