Details about new directions
The 4.7 update process now allows PC emulator applications to download games. This is an important step for developers who also want to provide such applications. In addition, Guidelines 4.7.2 and 4.7.3, which address the use of native platform APIs and data sharing and privacy permissions, have been included in the notarization process for third-party applications in the EU. Notarization, which is required for third-party applications outside the App Store in the EU, requires compliance with Guidelines 4.7, 4.7.2 and 4.7.3. Version 4.7 allows mini-apps, mini-games, streaming games, chats, plug-ins and game emulators. 4.7.2 prohibits applications from extending or exposing platform APIs native to the Software without Apple’s permission. 4.7.3 states that applications may not share data or privacy permissions with any software offered within an application without the user’s consent.
Important for developers and users
UTM SE was the first PC emulator app to be approved in the App Store, but today’s policy changes will simplify the approval process for similar apps. This is an important step to provide developers with greater transparency and flexibility when creating and deploying emulator applications. Users can avoid unsafe “fallbacks” as emulators and related games and programs are now officially available and comply with Apple’s security and privacy standards.
